Sign Language

by Nikki Montgomery

Teaching babies sign language can be super helpful. Now that the twins are 6 months old and have more control over their movements and can focus on us we can start teaching them sign language. We did it with Mia and it was awesome. She was able to communicate simple things to us before she was able to form words.

Babies probably won't form their first sign until 9 months or more. You shouldn't stop signing just because they aren't signing back. It takes time for them to it up.

Some simple signs to start with are:

Milk

Juice

Drink

Please

Sorry

Thank You

I love you

Eat

Outside

Sleep

Blanket

I'll demonstrate these signs in the video below:

Remember that when you teach your babies sign language you should also teach it to your caregivers so they know what your child is trying to tell them.
