The North Central High School teacher who made controversial comments about gays and lesbians has been placed on administrative leave by the Northeast School Corporation.
Superintendent Dr. Mark Baker said the school has received several threats as a result of the teacher's comments and as a safety precaution she has been placed on leave.
The school corporation says that they do not agree with the comments made.
School officials did not identify the teacher placed on leave but at that time North Central Teacher Diana Medley was quoted as saying that her group wanted to make the public see that they love the homosexuals, but they didn’t think its right nor should it be accepted. She also stated that she doesn’t think that gays have a purpose in life, she doesn’t understand them and that being gay is a lifestyle choice.
Additional security measures have also been taken including placing officers on site all day at the school.
This all stems from a group of people in Sullivan County who proposed a separate Sullivan High School prom for straight students and gay students.
