Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and House lawmakers are arguing over how to expand health care coverage for roughly 400,000 Indiana residents. Lawmakers and the governor's office are still trying to decide whether the Healthy Indiana Plan's savings accounts can be successfully expanded from covering 40,000 residents to more than 400,000. Gov. Pence filed a waiver with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services last week seeking to use HIP as the vehicle for the Medicaid expansion.
The Indiana Hospital Association estimates the state could miss out on $10.5 billion in federal aid without a Medicaid expansion.
