The murder trial of a Paris, Ill teen got under way yesterday.

Terry Payton is accused of stabbing his mother to death in June 2011.

In court police played a recording where Payton told authorities that he and his mother had been arguing for several hours on the day of the stabbing.

Payton’s mother apparently accused the boy of taking several hundred dollars from her.

He was apparently concerned about her use of alcohol.

Later that same day he poured a bottle of his mother’s alcohol down a drain, the argument turned physical and he stabbed her in self defense.

The prosecution says that after the fight Terry Payton went on to visit a nearby Wal-Mart and McDonalds, but did not call for an ambulance to care for his mother.

The trial is expected to continue into next week.
